Household waste management remains a critical environmental issue in rural areas, including Pematang Panjang Village, Air Putih District. Low public awareness, limited infrastructure, and the absence of an integrated waste management system have contributed to waste accumulation, environmental pollution, and potential health risks. These conditions highlight the importance of community service initiatives focused on strengthening community capacity and participation in sustainable waste management practices. The objective of this community service program is to analyze the existing waste management conditions in Pematang Panjang Village, enhance community knowledge and awareness regarding environmentally friendly waste management, and encourage the implementation of community-based waste management practices. The community service partners involved in this program include the village government, community groups, and households as the primary sources of waste generation. The implementation method adopts a participatory approach, encompassing field observations, interviews, educational counseling, focus group discussions (FGDs), and hands-on assistance in waste management practices such as household waste segregation, composting of organic waste, and the utilization of recyclable materials with economic value. The results of the program indicate a significant improvement in community understanding and awareness of proper waste management, positive behavioral changes in household waste segregation practices, and the emergence of collective commitment between the community and village authorities to manage waste in a more systematic and sustainable manner. This community service activity is expected to serve as an initial model for community-based waste management implementation in rural areas, contributing to environmental sustainability and improved community well-being.
