Household organic waste in rural areas is generally managed through conventional practices such as open burning and uncontrolled dumping, which may lead to environmental pollution and public health risks. This Community Service Program aimed to improve community knowledge and skills in managing household organic waste through the implementation of the Takakura composting method, a simple and practical household-scale technology. The program was conducted using a participatory approach involving 25 households over a four-week period, consisting of socialization, technical training, intensive mentoring, and evaluation stages. Evaluation was carried out descriptively by comparing participants’ understanding and practices before and after the program. The results showed a significant improvement in waste segregation practices and composting skills among participants. The volume of organic waste disposed into the environment decreased, and the compost produced met the physical criteria of mature compost, characterized by a dark brown color, odorless condition, and crumbly texture. Furthermore, the program encouraged positive behavioral changes toward environmentally friendly waste management practices. Therefore, the implementation of the Takakura method proved to be an effective and sustainable household-based solution for organic waste management in rural communities.
